Research shows that students who take Advanced Placement (AP) courses while in high school are much more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree within 5 years of graduation. Colleges are aware of this research and look for students who have taken AP courses. Counselors tell us that it is better to have a “B” or “C” in an AP or honors class than to have an “A” in a general track class because it shows colleges that the student understands the level of work expected in college and is willing to work hard. Honors level foundation courses offer a good preparation for advanced placement courses.

The Nease High School Course Catalog is a valuable resource for parents and students. Included in the catalog are descriptions of all course offerings at Nease. You will also find information on county grading policies and academic scholarship opportunities. There is also a Year-at-a-Glance Pacing Guide available from our district website that suggests a recommended pace and content standards for selected courses.

Parents should take an active part in the course selection process by becoming familiar with graduation requirements and scheduling deadlines. In order to make informed decisions, parents should take time to read the course catalog and discuss rigorous coursework with their students. It is most important that parents and students communicate with teachers and school counselors throughout the course selection process.

Nease’s specialized programs and academics include:

Advanced Placement Courses

Communications Academy

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC)

Stellar Academy of Engineering

St. Johns County Academy of Hospitality & Tourism

If you have any questions about the scheduling process please contact the Nease Guidance Office at 904.547.8321.
